This game was originally written by my father, who I was named after. It makes the copyright notice easier to write. He wrote a flash cards game which looks surprisingly similar to this one for an original IBM Personal Computer. My brothers and I would play the game and hone our math skills. We liked the smiley face that popped up.
Fast forward to 2000. When I was learning how to write software of my own, I remade the game with QBasic. That version can actually be downloaded at

Unfortunately, I had not learned how to use timers with QBasic, so the time feature does not work. Further, I did not think through the division operation, and it does not function very well. The source code for this game is long lost, and will most definitely never be found.
Somewhere between the previous paragraph and the next, I earned a master's degree in mathematics, and began teaching at a university.
Fast forward some more to 2009, where I am a well-seasoned programmer. I recently learned JavaScript, and thought it would be fun to remake Kids in a modern, usable format. (DOS games are no longer in high demand.) That is the game you have before you now. I changed the name to Kids Math Flash Cards to make it more unique and descriptive.
