Potatoes au Gratin

Ingredients

  • 4 russet potatoes, cleaned
  • 2 tablespoons softened butter
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Ground pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese


Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 400 F.
  2. Remove butter from refrigerator and let it soften.
  3. Cut potatoes into 1/8" thick slices, then cut along the cross section of these slices so that potatoes are bite sized.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together cream, milk, flour,
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together cream, milk, flour, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  6. Grease the bottom of a baking dish with butter.
  7. Line the bottom of the baking dish with a layer of potatoes, then lightly drizzle with the cream mixture. Repeat this process until all of the potatoes are in the dish, and cover with any remaining cream.


Bake

  1. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  2. Remove foil and bake an additional 20 minutes.
  3. Cover with cheese and bake for 3-5 minutes more, or until the cheese is melted.
